About
My Approach
to Tattooing
My name is Ilya Evseev. I am a tattoo artist based in Batumi with over 10 years of professional tattooing experience.
I work with tattoos of diverse styles: black-and-grey and color pieces, realism, Black & Grey, chicano, graphics, fine line, lettering, Japanese motifs, and custom projects. For me, the priority is not confining an idea to a single rigid style, but finding the exact solution that fits the person and the specific placement on the body.
Before tattooing, we discuss the concept, references, size, and anatomical placement. I then adapt the composition to the body curves so the piece reads clearly, looks cohesive, and retains its visual punch over time.
BEFORE WE BEGIN
WHAT I EXAMINE
BEFORE STARTING WORK
PLACEMENT
The composition must belong to that exact part of the body: harmonizing with muscle curves, joints, and natural motion.
SCALE
Scale determines how much detail can realistically fit and remain legible 5–10 years down the line.
FOCAL POINT
In every piece, it must be instantly clear what catches the eye first. I define this before laying down ink.

REFERENCES
A REFERENCE —
IS A BEGINNING,
NOT A FINISHED
TATTOO
You can send completely disparate images — what matters is what resonates with you. I look for the mood, lighting, contrast, or narrative that caught your eye.
From this emerges a bespoke work — never a carbon copy of someone else's tattoo, but your own genuine piece.
Never just copy an image.
Understand what truly makes it work.
REFERENCE → CONCEPT → SKETCH → COMPOSITION
PROCESS
HOW A COMPOSITION
TAKES SHAPE
From initial concept to body placement — each step shapes the final result.
CONCEPT
A dialogue about the concept — what you desire, where it sits, what nuances to protect. Clear communication yields the finest outcome.
SKETCH
Drawing on references and dialogue, I craft the composition. The design accounts for bodily curve, proper scale, and core focus.
BODY ADAPTATION
Before inking, the stencil is refined against the living curve of muscle. The same subject behaves distinctively across different body parts.
RESULT
WHAT MATTERS TO ME
IN A FINISHED
TATTOO
A great tattoo must read cohesively from across the room, sit naturally on the body, and preserve its character through healing.
LEGIBILITY
The tattoo must hold visual clarity from a distance — acting as a cohesive silhouette, not a cluttered cluster seen only up close.
ANATOMICAL FIT
A strong tattoo does not simply sit on skin — it flows with the body's natural contour, muscular movement, and posture.
DETAIL
The density of detail must match the overall scale. Micro-details belong strictly where they will remain legible over years.
